The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Lead to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Poor Response

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the need for a more defined direction.

The president stated that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

The news follows a comparable step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.

Below is the entire content from Ismailer's memo:

Dear Team—

I know you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a clearer vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the feedback to heart and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its promise to our players.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the latest Director of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and background in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having dedicated the past decade and a half creating and managing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving him soon. We are all looking forward to persist witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.
