The fast bowler Set to Play a Key Part in Iconic Rivalry

Australian cricket captain

The Australian skipper has secured 309 Test scalps in 71 appearances with an average of 22.10.

Australia's chair of selectors George Bailey has stated that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in the upcoming historic rivalry.

Rumors had circulated that the veteran bowler might be unavailable due to a persistent back stress problem that had not yet healed.

Earlier indications from the Australian camp suggested no final decision had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the Test matches set to start on 21 November in Western Australia.

Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and was "optimistic" about the likelihood of taking part.

"It's clear that time is getting short and various factors involved, aside from the back issue, but additional elements," Bailey remarked.

"We're encouraged. We firmly believe that he will feature a significant role. Ideally it's the first Test. If not, we'll reassess."

Past Concerns

Cummins was ruled out the ODI and T20 games against New Zealand and India last month after examinations confirmed a lumbar bone stress.

Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with recurrences in several earlier campaigns causing him to miss three Australian summers in a limited period.

He emphasized he would be bold in recovery efforts in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the contest.

Bailey noted that he did not know if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his comeback but acknowledged it was "getting tight" for him to be fit for the opener.

Alternative Arrangements

Should Cummins not be fit, ex-skipper Smith will assume leadership.

The talented all-rounder was recently pulled out from the ODI lineup for their ODI contests against India as a precautionary measure because of an abdominal issue.

The selector characterized it as a "minor" injury and confirmed that Green will play in the state-level matches, so will be "in a good place to deliver overs."

"Extensive planning has gone into creating the schedule for him to participate for the first Test as an batting and bowling option," the selector detailed.

"He was only going to play the initial matches anyway. The way he swings the bat in limited-overs, even if it just sets him back for 24 more hours, we opted to approach this more conservatively."
