19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since that period of 2023.
Victory also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 different competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
His defensive approach and frequent outbursts on court had led commentators to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.
However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.
The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.
Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, took control to create a decider.
He defended four initial opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
