Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say early analysis show the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior representative commented the incident left him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
